ALL OF THE PROPERTIES ARE EQUIPPED WITH LINEN AND TOWELS, BUT PLEASE BRING YOUR OWN BEACH TOWELS.

THERE IS NO LAUNDERETTE IN THE VILLAGE.
However... we can provide domestic cleaners and ironers if you are desperate!

We have various other rooms and accommodation, so if you don't see what you are looking for on the WEBSITE, please email us with SPECIFIC REQUESTS.  i.e. 2 families who need to be close to each other, isolated properties, other beach areas such as Kalamitsa, Aspous (where we have some rooms).   We are able to arrange one to three nighters if we know well in advance as some of our owners are prepared to do this if they have space in between other lettings in high season.

If you wish to come for the Skyrian Carnival in March (final weekend is 2nd, but a couple of weeks leading up to this is interesting!), please note that not all our accommodation has HEATING and it can be chilly then. The Greek Easter (18th to 20th April) is somewhat warmer and can get busy, so its best to book these two times well in advance to take advantage of the WARMEST accommodation.

About the Carnival

Every year just before the Greek Orthodox Lent begins on Skyros, strange figures appear dancing and twirling through the alleyways of the lofty Chora or main village. With their faces concealed by sheepskin masks and wearing hefty black woolly jackets, white britches and big metallic sheep/goat bells around their waists, they can appear quite spooky to the uninitiated. These represent the 'Yeros' (Old Man), a Dionysian figure born on the slopes where shepherds lead their sheep and goats to feed. The protagonist of the Skyros Carnival has two followers...the 'Korella'. a peasant girl bride, and the 'Frangos', the Old Man's foster son, dressed up in comical Western-style getup. On Carnival Sunday, the clamour of the bells ringing rhythmically as the Old Men hop around the village streets swells as the custom dating back to ancient springtime rituals reaches its peak.

The next day,

'Clean Monday' is the first day of Lent, when the Yeros concedes his leading role to the custom of the 'Trata' celebration. A traditional fishing boat is brought up the central square, where the crew, dressed in comical consumes and wigs poke fun at current affairs with improvised rhymes, to the great amusement of the spectators.
This is followed by dancing, eating, drinking and general merrymaking, with the Municipality of Skyros laying out a host of traditional lenten treats, including tiganites, a kind of doughnut served with honey.

Everyone should see this Carnival at least once in their lifetime! Its unique!
Book accommodation early as many visitors come to the island.

PETS

If you want to bring your dog or cat, we MUST know in advance... we will endeavour to help you, but not ALL properties will accept animals.  We do have some who are PET FRIENDLY, but they might require an extra deposit.

Please also note, there is no permanent VET on the island as yet and the nearest Greek vet is in Kymi on Evia.

Pet food is available in the local supermarkets, but there is no pet shop. The more remote beaches are accepting to dogs, but some beaches, especially Acherounes do not allow dogs in the high season... dogs should be kept on leads in the village and in July and August it is hot and busy in the Chora, so it is better for a pet to have their base outside of the village.

CHILDREN

It is important for us to know the ages of children, as some properties are not suitable for young children... i.e. they are up a spiral staircase or the inside of the house has a lot of stairs... we will find you the best possible accommodation for your needs.  Many of our properties are near or on a beach, but the village can also be good for children in the evenings as most of the local children play in the village square and there are 2 newly built play parks on the edge of the village.

SPECIAL CAR HIRE OFFER

Our partner car hire company is offering special rates to anyone who books and pays their deposit on any of our properties before 10th March 2015.   On the enquiry form, please quote SH/161 code to claim this. This applies to any holiday you book throughout 2015, but the deposit must be paid before 10th March.

The owners may want a pet deposit bond, which is refundable at the end of the stay if there is no damage!

At all of our holiday letting properties, we provide a WELCOME PACK of tea, coffee, water, soap and other small items to start you off.  Sometimes, if you arrive LATE, the shops are closed!

Please note that during HIGH SEASON, most landlords/hosts prefer not to let for less than 4 nights. We can usually organise a discount for longer stays of 2 weeks or more.
